Research & Innovation

Real Problems.
Research-Driven Solutions.

Lincoln America combines operational expertise, technology development, and collaborative research to explore and develop solutions for complex human, workforce, and government challenges.

Applied Research & Development

Innovation Begins With a Problem Worth Solving.

Lincoln America's approach to research starts with real-world operational needs rather than technology for technology's sake.

Our experience in human resources, workforce operations, technology, and government environments provides a practical foundation for identifying problems that may benefit from new technical approaches.

From there, we bring together the appropriate combination of domain expertise, software development, scientific research, engineering, and external collaboration needed to evaluate whether an idea can become a viable solution.

This allows Lincoln America to serve as a bridge between operational problems and the specialized expertise required to investigate them.

Our R&D Model

Identify Begin with a meaningful human, operational, workforce, or government problem.
Investigate Determine the scientific, technical, and operational questions that must be answered.
Collaborate Bring together researchers, engineers, technologists, domain experts, and potential end users.
Prototype Translate validated concepts into testable technologies, systems, or integrated solutions.
Transition Evaluate pathways toward deployment, commercialization, licensing, or government application.

Flagship Research Initiative
Project BUBO

Exploring the Future of Human Monitoring.

Project BUBO is an emerging Lincoln America research initiative exploring technologies that could improve awareness of human status in demanding operational environments.

The project investigates whether multiple technologies, including biosensing, wearable systems, software, and data analysis, can ultimately be integrated into a practical platform capable of providing meaningful information about an individual's status.

Early research is focused on the fundamental scientific and technical questions necessary to determine feasibility before progressing toward larger system development.

BUBO illustrates Lincoln America's broader R&D model: identify a consequential operational problem, determine the research necessary to address it, assemble the right expertise, and systematically move from concept toward evidence.

Research Questions

Biological Signals Which measurable signals can provide useful information about human status?
Selectivity & Stability Can target signals be measured reliably enough to support meaningful interpretation?
Response Time How quickly can relevant physiological changes be detected?
Individual Variability How do differences between individuals affect measurement and interpretation?
System Integration How might sensing, software, communications, and analytics eventually operate as one system?

Multidisciplinary by Design.

1
Domain Experts Define the operational problem and intended application.
2
Academic Researchers Contribute specialized scientific knowledge, laboratory capability, and research methodology.
3
Engineers & Technologists Translate scientific concepts into hardware, software, systems, and prototypes.
4
Government & Industry Provide mission context, potential applications, transition pathways, and real-world operational requirements.
University & Industry Collaboration

The Best Expertise Doesn't Have to Live Under One Roof.

Complex research problems rarely fit neatly within a single discipline.

Lincoln America's research model is built around collaboration. Rather than attempting to internally duplicate every scientific or engineering discipline, we seek to assemble teams around the requirements of each project.

This may include collaboration with universities, independent researchers, laboratories, technology companies, subject matter experts, government organizations, and other specialized partners.

Lincoln America contributes operational context, program direction, technology integration, and commercialization perspective while specialized research partners contribute the scientific and technical expertise required to investigate individual components of the problem.

From Concept to Capability

Research Is a Process, Not a Promise.

We approach emerging technology by answering the foundational questions first and allowing evidence to determine what comes next.

1

Define the Problem

Establish the operational need, desired outcome, constraints, and potential value of solving the problem.

2

Establish Feasibility

Identify the scientific and technical questions that determine whether the concept is possible.

3

Validate Components

Test critical technologies independently before attempting larger system integration.

4

Integrate & Prototype

Combine validated components into increasingly representative prototypes and evaluate system performance.

5

Transition

Evaluate pathways toward operational testing, regulatory requirements, commercialization, licensing, or government use.

Potential Applications

Research With a Path Toward Real-World Use.

Applied research becomes most valuable when it can ultimately improve a real process, mission, environment, or human outcome.

Lincoln America evaluates emerging concepts with potential applications across multiple environments rather than assuming a technology must serve only one market.

Depending on the research and eventual technical results, potential applications may exist across government, defense, public safety, workforce, industrial, healthcare-adjacent, and commercial environments.

Government Technologies supporting public missions, operational awareness, workforce readiness, and government programs.
Defense & National Security Potential technologies for demanding environments where human status and operational awareness may be important.
Public Safety Concepts with potential relevance to emergency response, hazardous environments, and distributed personnel.
Commercial & Industrial Emerging technologies that may ultimately support workers, organizations, and operational environments.
Government Research & Innovation

Advancing Ideas Through America's Innovation Ecosystem.

Federal research programs create opportunities for small businesses, universities, and technical partners to investigate technologies addressing important national needs.

Lincoln America evaluates research opportunities where our operational experience, technology capabilities, intellectual property, and collaborative research model align with the mission of the sponsoring organization.

These programs can provide a structured pathway from early feasibility research through prototype development and, ultimately, potential transition into operational use or commercialization.
